Davis writes Lucinda detailing that he is in good health. He notes that he received his first mail since leaving Raleigh, a letter from Lucinda as well as one from Sarah Kennedy. Davis acknowledged Lucinda's plan to stay with Sarah McLain for a week before heading home, although he details that Robert McMichael received a letter from his wife and it did not say that Lucinda had arrived. Davis continues to note that he received Silvie's picture as well as a letter from David Ingersoll. Davis writes that the 1st Wisconsin H.A. is stationed here at Alexandria, and that he has seen Tom Barkes, Jim Adams, Parker Briswell, and several other men from Badax. Davis details that they are very close to Washington, and will march there in several days. The letter is continued on May 26. Davis details that Robert McMichael and Will Cleary have each received additional letters, although he has not. He notes that they are encamped two miles north of Washington, and discusses his exploration of the city.
