Robert writes to his sister Helen Rogers from Camp Nelson, detailing that he is doing well, as is Erastus who is currently on guard. Robert notes that most of the Regiment has left the area, some going to Covington, Kentucky, and the rest to Buffington. Robert writes that those in Buffington were involved in a fight resulting in the capturing of 300 Rebel prisoners as well as a number of horses. Robert details that he is one of 16 men left behind to take care of the camp, and that the remainder of the Regiment has been involved in a number of skirmishes. He continues by noting that in one particular event those in his company took 90 prisoners and over 100 horses, and only two in the Regiment were killed, the Rebels supposedly said they did not want to fight against the Union guns as they were too powerful. Robert writes that they left Mt. Sterling yesterday, arriving here late last night, and he expects to go to Hickman's Bridge tomorrow. Robert concludes by detailing that Erastus participated in a skirmish and found Rebel stolen goods.
