Albert W. Barber writes to brother William and sister Malvina that he is both well and sick, although he believes it to be fine. He details that Ralph has rheumatism, likely from their late arrival at Camp Wells and the lack of tents due to rain. Barber details that he and Philip are excused from duty and that Michael is in the hospital with the measles. Barber details the food the men bought while they were out, as well as their preparation to march. He details that there is considerable joking and laughing among the men and that occasionally they may have a good talk. Barber writes that they expected to march this morning, however they did not, and they remain 40 miles from Cincinnati and several miles from Williamsburg. He continues by noting that there was a recent battle at Richmond. Barber concludes by detailing that a boy has died from Company B, and that he would like a kiss passed along to his niece Hattie and the other girls.
