This is a letter from O.G. Dunckel, a Union soldier, to his wife Elizabeth and their children. Dunckel hasn't heard from his family in 17 days and is worried. He hopes to be paid for four months of work soon, and asks his wife again to make sure she pays the taxes correctly. Winter clothing was supposed to be sent by train to the soldiers, but Dunckel expects he will never see it. He also lets his family know how their friends in the ranks are doing.
