Gooding notes that his regiment is on the move, possibly to conduct raids through Mississippi to Mobile, Alabama. Gooding mentions that he and his regiment handed over their extra clothes to be sent to troops in Nashville. He tells Lucy not to worry if she does not receive many letters from him for a period of time because the lines of communication are more difficult to maintain in the places they are going.
