Gooding recalls events that occurred as he and his unit traveled from Detroit through Indiana. Tells a story of how a soldier was seriously injured while riding on top of a carriage and failing to duck when the vehicle went under a bridge. He alludes to the "trechery" of Union General Don Carlos Buell, who was rumored to be a Confederate spy (though this was never proven) and discusses general details about camp life such as foraging for food.
