Michigan Farmer and State Journal of Agriculture. Household--Supplement

The Michigan Farmer and State Journal of Agriculture – Household Supplement collection features newspapers from 1884-1893, containing 487 issues. The Household Supplement came in addition to the Michigan Farmer and State Journal of Agriculture publication. Intended for the "woman of the house," it featured household management advice, cooking tips, editorial pieces and letters. Pieces on social issues (including how to be a "good farm wife"), gardening and canning tips, poultry and egg management advice, pet and childcare, and sewing and clothes-making grace the pages of this publication, providing insight into what was newsworthy reading to some folk at this time. A prose piece and a poem appear in the first pages of most issues. Advertisements were at the end of the publication.

Funding for digitization was generously provided by the USAIN, AgNIC, and CRL as part of Project Ceres. Other newspapers digitized as part of this grant are available on the Michigan Farming Journals collection page.
