Almost fatal accident
An event that was very startling and which those who witnessed it, expected to see terminate fatally, occurred at the depot Wednesday afternoon at about 4:30 o'clock. Condutor David Bailey of the South Shore freight was running along the track in front of an engine, when he stepped into a slight depression and fell onto the track. Before he could recover himself however, the engine was upon him and it seemed that he was about to be crushed to death.
