A letter to Guy Scofield from his mother, Mrs. Scofield (first name unknown). She tells him that the family is glad that he's well and hopes that they will be able to see him soon, and that she hopes that God will keep him safe. She warns him to beware of temptation, in particular warning against playing cards. She tells him that he must be careful as he goes into danger, saying she looks forward to the end of "this bloody rebellion," so that Guy can come home "a good upright man and a true patriot." She also warns him against deserting or coming home without leave. She also asks for the way his name is noted on the muster roll and unit number so his family knows where to direct letters. She ends by saying she will send him a box of things if he can't come home before his unit starts towards Washington.
