Black and white poster shows a large tree with three trunks representing 1) Utopian socialism, 2) Communism of the workers and class struggle, and 3) Humanitarian criticism of the political economy. The trunks converge at the 1848 Marx/Engels Communist manifesto then continue upward past Ferd. Lassalle and the 1863 workers' unions, "Die Internationale" (1864), the Paris Commune" (1871) and finally the international congresses of Paris (1889), Brussels (1891), Zurish (1893, and London (1896). The phrase at the top of this family tree of socialism is "Maitag des proletariats." The tree is marked with dozens of personal names, dates, and concepts related to socialism.
